Εδώ και πολλά χρόνια, οι κάτοικοι της πόλης Ember ευδοκιμούσαν μέσα σε έναν λαμπερό κόσμο χιλιάδων φωτών. Όταν όμως η ισχυρή γεννήτρια της πόλης αρχίσει να εξασθενεί και οι λάμπες που φώτιζαν την πόλη άρχισαν να τρεμοπαίζουν, δύο έφηβοι θα προσπαθήσουν να λύσουν το μυστήριο γύρω από την ύπαρξη αυτής της πόλης το συντομότερο δυνατό, ώστε να βοηθήσουν τους πολίτες να ξεφύγουν πριν σβήσουν τα φώτα για πάντα.
